Welcome our New Music Director

06-30-2019Pastor's LetterFr. John C. Granato

My Dear Friends,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to introduce this week our new music director, Mr. Louis Vollono, Jr. Lou comes to us with many years of experience in other Catholic parishes. It is my hope that he will help our parish continue with sacred celebrations as we come to worship God at Sunday Mass, and that he will help the parish community sing with one heart and mind and voice at these celebrations of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Music can be and usually is a source of division and tension in many parishes. One constant throughout the two thousand years of our Catholic faith, though, is that we do not focus on singing at Mass but that we sing the Mass.

Solemnity of Corpus Christi

06-23-2019Pastor's LetterFr. John C. Granato

My Dear Friends,

Today is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, or the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. Traditionally it is usually on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, but here in the United States, the bishops decided to move it to Sunday. It is a wonderful feast day where we honor and worship our Lord, truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist. Sadly, many Catholics do not believe that the Holy Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. There are many reasons for the lack of belief in this most awe inspiring mystery of our faith. Studies have shown that the increase in receiving the Holy Eucharist in the hand and standing rather than placed on the tongue and kneeling, as well as the increase in many Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, have lessened the faith in many peoples' eyes, especially the young people.

The Most Holy Trinity

06-16-2019Pastor's LetterFr. John C. Granato

My Dear Friends,

Today is Father's Day, a day that we honor all of our fathers and father figures in our lives. As was the case with Mother's Day, this day can be a source of pain and hurt for many people. In fact, due to much of this pain and hurt concerning certain men who have failed in being fathers or neglected their role as fathers or abandoned their children, many people, especially women, have had a difficult time calling God, Father. Yet, God has revealed himself precisely as Father, as our feast day today reminds.

Pentecost Sunday

06-09-2019Pastor's LetterFr. John C. Granato

My Dear Friends,

Today is Pentecost Sunday. Today we commemorate the gift of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit, also called the Holy Ghost, is the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. He is, according to the Nicene Creed that we pray every Sunday, the Lord, the giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and Son is adored and glorified. Apopular Catholic prayer for the Holy Spirit is:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray: O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

June: the Month of the Sacred Heart

06-02-2019Pastor's LetterFr. John C. Granato

My Dear Friends,

June is traditionally known as the Month of the Sacred Heart. This devotion goes back to the early church, but it was first explicitly known as the Sacred Heart in the 13th Century with St. Gertrude. It blossomed in the 16 th and 17 th Centuries with St. Margaret Mary Alocoque and St. John Eudes. St. Margaret Mary shared with us the 12 promises of the Sacred Heart, which are the following:

  1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.
  2. I will establish peace in their families.
  3. I will comfort them in their trials.
  4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.
  5. I will shed abundant blessings on all their undertakings
  6. Sinners will find in My Heart an infinite ocean of mercy.
